Campaign donation return prosecutions

As a result of the prosecutions so far, candidates have been ordered to pay fines and donations totalling more than $8,000 and contribute more than $12,000 to prosecution legal costs as well as submit their late returns

The Local Government Inspectorate has commenced legal action against 15 candidates in the 2016 Victorian council elections after they failed to submit a campaign donation return.

Candidates are required to submit campaign donation returns, listing any gifts or donations over $500, regardless of whether they were elected.
